Frequently Asked Questions
What is I'm Back?
I'm Back is a personal safety check-in application designed to help people notify trusted contacts if they fail to check in after a set period of time. It acts as a safety net when walking alone, traveling, commuting, or meeting new people.
What is a safety check-in?
A safety check-in is a timer you set before beginning an activity. If you safely reach your destination or finish your activity, you confirm you are safe. If the timer expires before you check in, the app automatically triggers an alert process.
How does the I'm Back timer work?
You choose how long you expect your activity to take and start the timer. The timer counts down securely. Before it hits zero, you must open the app and confirm you are safe. If the timer hits zero without confirmation, alerts are sent.
What happens if I don't check in?
If you fail to check in before your timer expires, I'm Back automatically initiates an emergency alert process. Your pre-selected trusted contacts will receive an email notification containing vital information, including your last known status, to help them respond.
Who receives an emergency alert?
Only the trusted contacts you have explicitly added and selected for that specific check-in session will receive an alert. You have full control over who is notified.
Does I'm Back require an internet connection?
You need an internet connection to start a timer. However, once a timer is running, our secure cloud servers monitor it. If your phone loses service, runs out of battery, or is destroyed, the server will still automatically send the email alerts when the timer expires.
Does I'm Back work when the phone is locked?
Yes. Once the timer is started, it runs independently of your phone's screen state. Your phone can be locked, asleep, or in your pocket, and the timer will continue to function correctly.
